چکیده

The degree to which the coordinate transformation concept first demonstrated for electromagnetic waves can be applied to other classes of waves remains an open question. In this work, we thoroughly examine the coordinate transformation invariance of acoustic waves. We employ a purely physical argument to show how the acoustic velocity vector must transform differently than the E and H fields in Maxwell’s equations, which explains why acoustic coordinate transformation invariance was not found in some previous analyses. A first principles analysis of the acoustic equations under arbitrary coordinate transformations confirms that the divergence operator is preserved only if velocity transforms in this physically correct way. This analysis also yields closed-form expressions for the bulk modulus and mass density tensor of the material required to realize an arbitrary coordinate transformation on the acoustic fields, which we show are equivalent to forms presented elsewhere. We demonstrate the computation of these material parameters in two specific cases and show that the change in velocity and pressure gradient vectors under a nonorthogonal coordinate transformation is precisely how these vectors must change from purely physical arguments. This analysis confirms that all of the electromagnetic devices and materials that have been conceived using the coordinate transformation approach are also in principle realizable for acoustic 3 Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed. Transformation seismology: composite soil lenses for steering surface elastic Rayleigh waves

Metamaterials are artificially structured media that exibit properties beyond those usually encountered in nature. Typically they are developed for electromagnetic waves at millimetric down to nanometric scales, or for acoustics, at centimeter scales. By applying ideas from transformation optics we can steer Rayleigh-surface waves that are solutions of the vector Navier equations of elastodynam...

Experimental acoustic ground cloak in air.

We present the design, fabrication, and performance analysis for a class of two-dimensional acoustic cloaking coatings in air. Our approach takes advantage of transformation acoustics and linear coordinate transformations that result in shells which are homogeneous, broadband, and compact. The required material parameters are highly anisotropic; however, we show that they are easily achievable ...

Mismatches between objective parameters and measured perception assessment in room acoustics: a holistic approach

Psychoacoustic research in the field of concert halls has revealed that many aspects concerning listening perception have yet to be totally understood. On the one hand, the objective room acoustics of performance spaces are reflected in parameters, some standardized and some not, but these are related to a limited number of perceptual attributes of human response. In general, these objective pa...

Optimization of Agrobacterium-mediated transformation in oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) by vector containing human pro-insulin gene

Transferring foreign genes into mushroom mediated by Agrobacterium tumefaciens is a standard technique in genetic engineering. Recombinant human insulin has been greatly used in the treatment of type I diabetes. The production of edible mushroom derived insulin should facilitate oral delivery. In this study we used the Agrobacterium tumefaciens mediated transformation method for the transfer an...

A procedure for determining rigid body transformation parameters.

For many biomechanical applications it is necessary to determine the parameters which describe the transformation of a rigid body from one reference frame to another. These parameters are a scaling factor, an attitude matrix, and a translation vector. The paper presents a new procedure for the determination of these parameters incorporating the work of Arun et al. [IEEE Trans. Pattern Anal. Mac...
